Kim Meredith Gallery

It started like all things do, an empty space and what could we fill it with; an art gallery was among the initial ideas that leapt out. We quickly reached a consensus and there was loads of excitement, and patting ourselves on the back for what promised to be a great endeavour. We told family members and our friends, even more excitement flowed. Yet, without our knowing, the pause button was hit; the living gets easy and the living gets hard, a decade passed with no real excuse other than the distraction of life. So with a recession looming, people losing their minds after the existential crisis of Covid and the growing number of conflicts around the world, what better time to get to it. Kim Meredith Gallery is a Moana-led gallery representing artists we’re excited to show to audiences in Aotearoa and the world.

KMG will hold a series of Market Days in the lead up to our launch early next year with a solo exhibition by visual artist Janet Lilo (Tainui, Ngāpuhi, Samoan, and Niue). Janet Lilo has long been an artist I have admired as an arts writer (and now Gallery owner) so naturally she was my first pick (we dared to dream) to debut the gallery and I’m still in shock that she agreed and is also entrusting KMG to represent her incredible mahi. It’s never fun working solo, let alone starting a new business, so it’s hugely exciting to announce our Gallery Co-Directors, Courtney Sina Meredith and Danielle Meredith. With extensive experience in the arts world, multi-talented as artists and administrators, KMG is all set to step out in Aotearoa and abroad on the global stage.
